Painting Aesthetic

For instance, painting can convey beauty, emotion, or an abstract concept by encapsulating it in a representation of something tangible. Numerous other arts exhibit these virtues.

It may appear arbitrary to inquire about the aesthetics of painting in particular because of this. The question, on the other hand, makes perfect sense if painting has something unique to offer. It's possible that painting provides a one-of-a-kind combination of values that can't be found anywhere else; or it could be that painting provides a unique perspective.

Two topics that are relevant in some way. The first is the idea that painting is no longer relevant as an art form. The other is that the self-conception of art history as an academic field has been completely transformed in recent years. The latter involves either an issue that is too broad to discuss here, namely the idea that aesthetics are themselves outdated concepts; or an irrelevant concept, such as the notion that non-aesthetic issues ought to be the focus of art history at least in part.

The first presupposes our question, not undermines it.
